God Hears Our Prayers.

Recently I have had quite a few people ask me to be praying for them. It seems like everyone needs prayer these days including myself. I know that sometimes we wonder if God hears our prayers. He does! Although it may not be the way we would like Him to answer it. We just need to trust Him. He knows what is best for us and we don't. I thought that I would use this post to write down all the verses that I could find in the Bible that talks about God hearing our prayers as believers to encourage us..

Old Testament:

Psalm 6:9
"The Lord has heard my supplication, The Lord receives my prayer."

Psalm 34:15
"The eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous And His ears are open to their cry."

Psalm 145:18&19
"The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, To all who call upon Him in truth. He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him; He will also hear their cry and will save them."

New Testament:

Matthew 21:22
"And all things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive."

John 9:31
"We know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is God-fearing and does His will, He hears him."

Philippians 4:6&7
"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God which surpasses all comprehension will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

1 John 5:14&15
"This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which have asked from Him."

These are the verses I could find but there may be more that I didn't see. I encourage you all to go look in your Bibles and see if there are any others. If there is I would like to know. If you find one that you think talks about God hearing our prayers than just add it as comment. I know that we could all be encouraged by this. Thanks. :)

Hey Michelle,

Great post and compilation. The whole of Psalm 34 is great, verse six is the one that got David Berkowitz saved, he was a serial killer before his conversion.

Prayer is a great place to preach the Gospel from, here is my Sunday School lesson for it: http://netwetters.blogspot.com/2008/09/september-21st-1-thes-12-3-prayer.html

Keep up the good work,
Canyon

P.S. It's neat that you just finished "The Soul Winner", I'm about half-way through right now and loving it.

Michelle Luke chapter 1, When the angel appears to Zechariah while he's offering sacrifices in the temple, the angel says: "Do not be afraid Zechariah, for your prayer has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John." (Luke 1:13)
Also in 2nd Kings 19:15 --> Hezekiah prays to God
and in 19:20 we are told that God heard Hezekiah's prayers
"Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: Your prayer to me about Sennacherib king of Assyria I have heard."

In Genesis 25:21 while we are not explicitely told that God heard Isaac's prayer, we know He did because God granted him his prayer:
"And Isaac prayed to the Lord for his wife, because she was barren. And the Lord granted his prayer, and Rebekah his wife conceived."

There are many more examples but I'll let others share what they have found as well :)
Great post Michelle!
God bless!

Dear Michelle,

Thank you very much for your post, its a wonderful complilation of verses that encouraged me especially during times that I wondered if God really does hear my prayers.. and He DOES indeed! Great post! And God bless you :)

P.S To C.B. Shearer, thank you for pointing me to Psalm 34, I was especially comforted by verse 17:

'The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help.
He rescues them from all their troubles'

God bless you too. :)

Thanks so much for doing this! I am in the midst of writing my own blog on God answering prayer and needed a quick reference for a couple of verses to add in - this was just perfect! Thanks again!
